Official

Well. We're moving to Morocco. They agreed to a later start date and I've signed and sent off the contract. Good God!

Now we just have to get organzied and get married. Simple really. Yea uh-huh. I'm already stressed at finding a dress. I don't want anything fancy. Just something simple, but with stores seeming to carry nothing these days I've exhausted my online options (although I have 4 dresses at home which are possible and being kept as back up in case I find nothing else I like) and I keep looking at the same things online over and over. sigh. I think I have a few more options I can order and try on at home. But after that.....Bridal boutiques scare me. Both for the intimidation factor and money factor.

And then I have to find shoes, and maybe jewlery. This is all just exhausting and this is just a teeny tiny portion of this whole process. Thank god we are having a small hurried wedding. Anything else and I might pull out my hair. I am so not a girl.

And then there is moving logistics. I don't even know where to start there so I'm just waiting for the HR department to contact me. I need direction people!

And this morning it entered into my head that I'm going to have to say goodbye to my cats. When I drop them off at the vet for boarding as everyone who would usually watch them will be in SB with us. So it will be stressful for them and I will be super sad. Mom will of course take great care of them, but I don't know when I'll see them again. I'm a pathetic pathetic cat lady.

And there are a million more "and thens" that are swirling around in my head. So if I act like a basket case for the next month or so, please forgive me. This is all a little overwhelming.

Thank you to everyone for all your support and love. Garren and I are amazed at the outpouring of offers of help that we have received since calling you all and letting you know that this whole crazy plan is a go. We truly have the best friends and family.

I'm going to go back to obsessing over my list (planner!) and trying to do work now. Although really who can focus on work....

  1. You could always try David's Bridal? I think they're not too expensive or frou-frou.

  2. yah i was looking at david's bridal last night after we talked and i thought they had some things you might like. but i'm not sure what your price range is.
like maybe something like this? http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=7&subCategory=-49999486|-49995498&catentryId=1000185

  3. I've been considering David's Bridal but it's all the way in Colma and I'm a little worried about the time for ordering the dress and all....so. The dress you linked to Jade is very pretty. Outta the price range unfortunately but for sure the type of style I'm drawn to.

  4. i am pro one of the dresses you already have. and flip flops. and maybe jewellery you already have too. and i'm just saying, really storing your cats in my spare room for a few days so you a) don't have to pay for boarding and b) so my mom (she said it was fine) will give them lots of love and cuddles, is still totally an option. your mom can pick them up on her drive back home. also really any jewellery of mine you'd like to borrow (borrowing something is in keeping with a wedding, also something blue, etc), i will totally loan you my stuff. you're welcome to come pick over the options anytime. and then i will be welcome to borrow your yellow heels. though really i just want to buy purple platforms. do you want to go shoe shopping? i will go. purple platforms, HOH! (p.s. i'd also go to scary wedding boutiques with you. keep in mind i am unemployed and always available for shopping. maybe we should try closer places in berkeley before going to colma though).

  5. yea. there is a place having a sample sale until the 15th of june. I might call them. So if I do I'll let you know...I can't really decide yet. I like the dresses I have at home I'm just not super excited about any one of them.

I'd love to go through you're jewlery and I'll think about having the cats at your place. Thank your mom for the offer. I'm worried you might not be able to get maggie out of the room to take her back home though.

But shoe shopping = yes. Although maybe I should decide on the dress first....sigh.

  6. eh, you wanna go to petaluma this weekend?
    http://www.theweddingwearhouse.com/
or we could try laci's in berkeley. vintage gowns!

  7. there really isn't much in the guest room for maggie to hide under or behind. i mean, there's not a bed in there so her options are limited. we could make a little hidey hole for her that's easy to access when we actually need to get her out. basically it would be fine though is my point.

i will bring my better jewelery options on sunday to FTC. and those shoes i have just in case.

i will give you some unsolicited advice too which i learned while trying on dresses with marina. going to bridal stores and trying on ever more dresses did not really help make a decision. it just made it more stressful and icky. plus bridal stores cost waaaay too much. the faster you start making decisions the quicker it will be less stressful. the dresses i already saw you try on are so, so pretty and you looked gorgeous in all of them. you know my favorites. =) if your fave was the champagne j. crew one you should just order it in the other size and see if it's exactly what you want (maybe in ivory instead of champagne though, i'm just saying =P ).

  8. No. I saw the champange in the pictures and agreed with everyone. It didn't look good on me. There is another jcrew one (different style, same material) that I might get to try. And I'll get it in ivory. But everyone also agreed that the jcrew one was boring so....

And I hear you about trying on more and just getting discouraged and it not helping. I'm pretty much there, but I feel pathetic as I didn't really try on that much. :)

I'm leaning towards the gold one.....leaning but not quite decided yet. I'll let you know about Peteluma but really I don't think it's necessary. I may change my mind though!

And I'll talk with mom about the cats. As long as your mom is for sure ok with it.

  9. i agree with michele in the sense that narrowing down what style you're looking for before going to the shops makes life much simpler. by the time i set foot in the store, i had narrowed it down to three options and ended up buying the 1st one i tried.

i think in wedding planning it helps to have a list of priorities (like the top 3 things you won't compromise on, the things you could compromise on, and the things you don't really care about). for me, the dress was one of the things that i was particular about. so if you're the same way, i think holding on to a couple of your "back-up plan" dresses while still looking out for The One is a good plan. [if you're still looking by then, i could come up the weekend of the 21st or the 27th if you'd like me to!]

and try not to stress. i know that's practically impossible, and i stressed every single day leading up to my wedding. but everything will come together perfectly. so...breathe. :) and we love you!

    ReplyDelete
  10. ACK! Well, for a basket case, you really sound like you've got it together. Just a lot to get through in a short amount of time. One thing at a time, and definitely just breathe. This may be a crazy time, but one you'll want to remember, so keep up the blogging or try a journal. You'll be amazed at what you can do when you look back on it! Love to you and Garren, and please let us know if there's anything we can do from waaaaay out here in Chicago! Les

  11. boring isn't bad. and if you liked it you should totally get it. it wasn't hideous or anything it just wasn't covered in awesome silve and gold embroidery. =) but it would look good on you in ivory and the right size. and it was very hollywood 20s which i always like.

anyway i like jade's priorty plan and being specific about what you want.

is what you like about the gold one the empire waist style? because maybe we just need to find you more dresses like that. that could be your priority in going to a bridal store.

and my mom is totally totally fine with letting the cats stay here a couple days. no worries at all. she will be super nice to them.

  12. I think the problem is that I'm not sure what I want. Something simple, but a little different.

The other issue is budget. We have a farily small budget for the wedding and a photographer is my big priority so I need to see what headway I can make there. We'll see.

  13. Thanks again everyone for the support! It's nice to know I can nag everyone for help if needed. I feel so loved.

  14. i can totally recommend our photographers (if you like photo-journalist style photography). they're based in ventura and were pretty much awesome. (www.kellysegrephotography.com) i think their rates have gone up some, but since you're planning for mid-week they'll probably cut you a cool deal. the quality/price ratio was the best we were able to find in SB.

p.s. what size shoe do you wear? if it's a 7 or 7.5, you are welcome to borrow my shoes if you like them and they match whatever dress you pick. pics of them are in my wedding album on myspace.

  15. Thanks Jade. I'll definately take a look at the website and you're pictures were gorgeous. I'm still playing phone tag with a photographer I knew back from working at the Ranch so we'll see. I think we'll be able to find something in our price range since it's mid week and we only really want someone for an hour or two.

Shoes are too small for me but no worries, I'll find something!

  16. ooo, with that bright pink background i like this photographer already.

  17. If you want to go to the giant-est, cheapest bridal gown store around, this one comes highly recommended (and Fremont isn't as far away as Colma):
    www.weddinggownsuperstore.com

You are also welcome to borrow any of my jewelry at finer things, but I doubt any of it is nice enough.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks Christine. That's a great idea. I might just go check the store out. Thank you also for the offer of jewlery. Maybe I'll take a peek at FTC.

    ReplyDelete
  19. mm, christine, hello, don't you own diamonds? i think any of your jewelry could kick mine's ass.

    ReplyDelete
  20. My mom has all the good jewelry. I have a fake diamond bracelet you could borrow and an interesting carved bracelet and lots of earrings, but I don't have much super-bling. You could layer different things though. The earrings that would be perfect are broken right now and I left them with my mom to get fixed. I might be able to get them fixed in time. Anyway, you can look at all of it tomorrow.

  21. Thanks Christine. I'll definitely take a look if you don't mind. But if not I'm sure I can find something that I have that might work
